Beyond Billables: What a Salary-Based BCBA Role Truly Means at BH Field

ABA Therapy
ABA Assessment

I want to start by saying this honestly, BH Field may not be the perfect fit for everyone, and that’s okay. However, having worked in multiple ABA organizations as both an RBT and a BCBA, I can confidently say that BH Field stands apart in many meaningful ways. Our family-touch, close provider support, open communication, appreciation culture, and leadership rooted in clinical integrity truly differentiate us. We are led by people who genuinely care about both, employees and clients alike. That matters !

At BH Field, we want fairness, stability, quality of life, high-employee satisfaction, and high-quality care. We continuously seek areas of improvements and aim  to make the lives of our team members easier but that requires shared accountability between BH Field and employees. We actively protect and cultivate our culture and clinical excellence. We share responsibility in maintaining a stable, ethical, and sustainable organization, one that protects both our clients and your professional certification. If someone does not see the value in BH Field, we respect that. We understand we won’t be the organization of choice for everyone.

Let’s review the realities of the ABA field together. Services are funded through insurance reimbursement. When clients cancel, reimbursement does not occur, yet operational costs and ongoing expenses remain intact. Employer taxes, workers’ compensation, benefits, administrative support, compliance, software, rent, training, quality assurance, salaries… Sustainability requires shared accountability.

Regarding the salary-based BCBA role/Full-Time BCBA, if cancellations or RBT turnover occur, that does not eliminate the BCBAs’ accountability for proactively managing their caseload as part of professional responsibility to meet billable expectation, because billable hours is not something the organization should chase the BCBA for; However, billable hours are part of the job, but they are not the entirety of the job. A salary-based BCBA position is compensation for full time professional contribution, clinical oversight, leadership, availability, staff support, collaboration, program development, and outcomes. It is not simply payment for billing of CPT codes. Meeting billable minimums is an expectation of the role, not the role itself.

Likewise, if a BCBA meets billable expectations but has additional salaried hours available, those hours should be intentionally invested back into BHF, whether through supporting colleagues, creating materials, strengthening treatment plans, parent collaboration, quality improvement, staff development, innovation… That is value-based leadership and the one we want at BH Field.

As co-founder of BH Field, I lead with heart, but also with accountability, because we operate within regulatory and funding requirements that don’t always allow flexibility; So, some decisions are non-negotiable because they involve client safety, ethical standards, or compliance. BH Field is the place where excellence, responsibility, and commitment meet recognition and appreciation !!! That’s what truly sets BH Field  apart !!
